71st Transportation Battalion (Terminal)

Headquarters, 71st Transportation Battalion, normally known as the Expediters, arrived in Vietnam during August 1966, was assigned to the 4th Transportation Command (Terminal C) and charged with the mission of operating the US Army Terminal Newport, which began operation during October 1966. The port initially consisted of shallow draft port facilities for the reception, discharge and port clearance of cargo barges, LCU's, LCM'S, and LST'S. Facilities for deep draft operations were opened during the period February - July 1969. To accomplish the currently assigned mission of operating the port facilities at Newport, Saigon and Tay Ninh, provision of the harborcraft services for the III and IV Corps tactical zones, and management of the battalion cantonment at Camp Camelot, the battalion has attached the 154th, 300th, 368th, 551st, 561st and the 567th Terminal Service Companies, 372nd and 402nd Terminal Transfer Companies, and the US Army Harborcraft Company (Provisional).
