372nd Transportation Company (Terminal Service)
The 372nd Transportation Company (Terminal Transfer), normally known as the "Tonnage Tigers", was activated during
December 1968 and immediately assigned to the 71st Transportation Battalion at Long Binh Post.  Upon arrival in RVN,
the unit was initally charged with the mission of operating one deep draft berth at US Army Terminal, Newport,
plus operations of the Ho Nai Railhead. In addition to performing missions of primary military importance,
the unit has been active in civil affairs projects, as evidenced by the completion of an orphanage in
February 1969 which accommodates 65 Vietnamese orphans at Ho Nai Village. During May 1969,
the previously assigned missions were deleted, and the unit is now operating 7 barge sites,
2 LST sites, 2 LCU sites, a transshipment yard, dunnage yard, and a roll-on/roll-off facility
at Newport. An additional mission is operating the Army Air Cargo Terminal at
Bien Hoa Air Base.
